The TrichoTest is a genetic test which supports health care professionals in personalising treatment for hair loss. The recommendations are based on population studies analysing a total of 48 genetic variations.

There are many different types of hair loss, but the  3 types of hair loss it is used for are balding (androgenetic alopecia), Telogen effluvium and Alopecia Areata.

It combines the analysis of genetic variations, lifestyle factors and literature related to hair loss treatment. It suggests individualised treatment options through topical, oral or surgical solutions.

Before this test you will undertake a  detailed consultation and hair examination to make sure that  we are dealing with one of the 3 types of hair loss described above.  If a TrichoTest is appropriate, then some of that information is entered onto the portal and we complete an informed consent form.

The DNA sample is taken with a swab from inside the mouth. Smoking, eating, alcohol, and drinking (water is the exception) should be avoided one hour before the sample is taken. You will be asked to rinse your mouth with water before  the sample is taken.

You would need to bring your passport as a form of identification  for the DNA test and also a form of identifcation with your address from within the previous 6 months so that a prescription can be issued for you if necessary.

The results are available 2 weeks later.  The recommendations may include prescribed or non prescribable treatments

The price of the test includes the initial consultation and then the follow up contact  to discuss the results.

Price: £350 including 30 -60 minute consultation and follow up appointment with a prescriber  (Further information can be found on the following link: https://uk.fagron.com/en-gb/product/fagron-trichotesttm-hair-loss-treatment)
